Wednesday 18th February - Blue Advanced JUNIOR Skills Session 1.30pm - 4.30pm
Blue Advanced Junior – Trail Riding Sessions (Ages 10–13)
This is a new style Blue Advanced Junior session, designed primarily for riders aged 10–13. Slightly younger riders may be considered with coach permission, based on riding ability, confidence, and fitness level.
These sessions are focused more heavily on off site riding, exploring the wider network of natural trails across the Surrey Hills. Riders should enjoy trail riding and be keen to cover longer distances in a group environment.
⚠️ IMPORTANT – Fitness & Distance Requirement
This session is strictly for Blue ability riders who are able to cycle a minimum of 6 miles with a good level of fitness. Sessions will regularly involve longer off site trail rides, and it is important that your child is comfortable with this distance. Ensuring riders meet this requirement helps keep the group together and makes the ride far more enjoyable for everyone.
These sessions are designed for riders who have already secured strong basic bike skills and are ready to progress further. Coaching will focus on developing techniques such as:
Cornering on natural trails
Riding steeper terrain
Small drops and small jumps
Maintaining control and confidence over longer trail distances
Coaches will work with riders to develop:
Controlled stopping using back brake, front brake, and combined braking
Strong, adaptable riding positions for low overhead obstacles, ground obstacles, and undulating terrain
Effective body movement on the bike to manage sharp bumps and trail features such as inclines, corners, and rapid changes in direction
Stability and control to neutralise bumps and trail undulations while riding at speed
Sessions will include trail riding off site as well as using Trail Academy’s private trails, pump track and jump line!
Price per session is £35.00
Location:
Duke of Kent School, Peaslake Road, Ewhurst Surrey GU6 7NS
As you arrive at the school driveway, take the first right hand turning by the lodge house towards ‘sports fields’ and follow the road down to the gravel carpark on your right. Don’t drive up the main school building.
What to bring on the day: A Mountain Bike, a mountain bike helmet – in full working order (not BMX) and gloves, appropriate clothing (long trousers) and footwear including waterproof jacket (please be aware that clothing and shoes can get muddy by the end of the session so a change of clothes may be handy). Snacks and a drink.
We will conduct a safety check on all bikes and advise on correct set up before every course.
Regardless of age, ability or skill level the Trail Academy is here to help. It is our aim to make all our classes as fun and progressive as possible. We want everyone to learn at their own pace and have fun while doing it!
