Jump/Drops Skills Session

This session is open to all riders at Blue ability level and above and is primarily focused on developing jumping skills. Sessions will mainly use our purpose built jump line within the school grounds, but may also include other suitable features and trail sections depending on the group, ability levels, and coaching focus on the day.

The session focuses on skills training and progression, helping riders develop existing skills, build confidence over jumps, and improve technique when riding jump features at speed.

Riders will learn how to:

  • Maintain strong, stable riding positions when approaching and riding jumps

  • Use effective body movement to manage take-off, flight, and landing

  • Generate grip, balance, and speed using the legs

  • Remain stable and neutralise bumps and undulations through jump features and linked sections

⚠️ IMPORTANT – JUMPS & DROPS

All features (jumps) are optional and fully avoidable for riders new to jumping, and riders will never be required to ride anything they are not comfortable with. Choosing to watch or opt out of features is always supported.

Coaches will use this session to focus on technical jumping skills, including:

  • Speed control and approach technique

  • Timing and body positioning for take-off

  • Controlled, stable landings

We will utilise our range of MTB Hopper ramps, the jump line, and other suitable trail features to take riders through the jumping process in a progressive and supportive way. Riders will also work on linking features together, reading lines, and maintaining flow while keeping the upper body neutral and allowing dynamic movement through the bike.

Price per session is £35.00

As you enter the school drive please turn right towards the ‘sports’ area and follow the road down to the right where you will see our flags and carpark.

What to bring on the day: A Mountain Bike, a mountain bike helmet (no BMX helmets) and gloves – in full working order, appropriate clothing (long trousers) and footwear including waterproof jacket (please be aware that clothing and shoes can get muddy by the end of the session so a change of clothes may be handy). Snacks and a drink.

We will conduct a safety check on all bikes and advise on correct set up before every course.

Regardless of age, ability or skill level the Trail Academy is here to help. It is our aim to make all our classes as fun and progressive as possible. We want everyone to learn at their own pace and have fun while doing it!
