(Years 9 - 11)

ADVANCED RED SESSION - please read description below.

Thursday 4:45pm - 6:45pm (2 hours ride out)

8 x Sessions starting Thursday 1st May 2025 to 3rd July 2025

These sessions are designed for competent ADVANCED riders that already have lots of experience in riding mountain bikes. The participants are expected to have a good understanding of body positioning, cornering and control on a variety of trail types.

The group learns how to maintain suitable riding positions for large obstacles overhead, large obstacles on the ground and varied undulating terrain and how to move the body on the bike to deal with sharp bumps and a range of trail features such as steep inclines, corners and sudden changes in directions.

Coaches use this session to focus on more technical downhill riding along with jumping and use the legs to find grip, balance and speed, ensuring that the rider remains stable and neutralises bumps and undulations on the trail.

Riders are taken on trails that require confidence, off site and often with corners you would find on a red graded trail including other features such as, tight switchbacks, berms, off camber roots, flat corners, drops and jumps.

The groups can discover how movement in corners can allows the rider to find more grip and how to read the trail ahead whilst maintaining flow.

Riders can discover how to turn with the hips and keep their upper body neutral, using dynamic movement in corners to allow more grip to be found.

The session will include riding for distances up to 10 miles and take place on the Trail Academy’s private trails and pump track as well as in the surrounding hills including Winterfold and Pitch Hill

What to bring: A Mountain Bike (riders are welcome to leave their bikes in our locked container and parents will have an access code), a mountain bike helmet (no BMX helmets) and gloves – in full working order, appropriate clothing (long trousers) and footwear including waterproof jacket (please be aware that clothing and shoes can get muddy by the end of the session so a change of clothes may be handy). Snacks and a drink.

We will conduct a safety check on all bikes and advise on correct set up before every course.

We have a fleet or Specialized hire bikes and helmets if required.

Regardless of age, ability or skill level the Trail Academy is here to help. It is our aim to make all our classes as fun and progressive as possible.

We want everyone to learn at their own pace and have fun while doing it!
